Beautiful history - even brighter future

Unidoor’s history starts with the creative jack-of-all-trades, architect and sculptor Frans Van
Praet. Starting in the late 1960s, he created a furor with pioneering concepts and furniture in wood. As it happens, son Lieven Van Praet adopted his father’s passion for wood and design and found his professional calling in making his designs and then other furniture and furniture components on a large scale.

Lieven’s passion for wood, art and design does not stand in the way of a sober and rational view of modern production methods and market developments. With the same passion and sense of perfectionism as art, Unidoor delivers repetitive custom work in a particularly efficient manner in an almost fully automated production environment.

Unidoor is family through and through. In 2018, it was a big event for Lieven Van Praet and his wife Cisca van Ravenhorst to welcome their daughter Myrthe to the business. After studies in TEW and experiences in real estate and banking, Myrthe joined the company as sales and finance manager.

Since the mid-2020s, daughter Micaëla has also joined the company. She graduated in 2020 after studies in wood technology and now leads production in Hall 2 and is the driving force behind many technical and organizational optimizations.

Our furniture factory is equipped to produce both fast automated custom orders as well as large quantities. We make your designs according to the rules of art and with the quality guarantee “made by Unidoor”.

We offer both sporadic clients and our regular partners the same efficient and fast execution of their assignments. In our paint shop we finish our kitchen and cabinet doors, furniture and furniture parts according to your wishes and your technical requirements.

Our people

We employ about 30 employees (m/f) in the production department. Administration, sales and daily management is in the hands of seven employees and the business manager. The sales department has two experienced representatives.

Our stellar men and women are the most valuable capital in the company. Their skills they learned in school and through experience in the workfield, their experience grew steadily and the tricks of the trade were passed on to them from old to young.

In addition, we provide ongoing training and continuing education for all employees. We believe very much in training-on-the-job, where gusto and attitude are more important than diplomas.

At Unidoor, we seek a solution to unleash every talent. With the support of our partners Resoc, De Mast and De Ploeg, we hired two young employees with special talents. They have since emerged as major stealers in a small sub-aspect of production. Their commitment and gratitude positively radiates to the entire team.

As a family business, we want to take a long-term perspective in all that we undertake. We feel committed to the well-being of our customers, suppliers, our employees and the local community. We are always looking for ways to optimize our production processes and reduce our carbon footprint.

Our efficient processes and machinery allow us to produce with less energy and material loss. Our entire electricity use is generated by solar power, and our fleet is mostly electric or hybrid. In addition, our wood waste is reprocessed into briquettes – nothing goes to waste.

We are currently working on a plan to become completely carbon-neutral in scope 1 and 2 and provide compensation by planting trees. We plant those trees together with our employees.

In our paintshop, when selecting lacquers and paints, we always strive to maximize material properties at minimum ecological impact. We have been purchasing our wood supplies and sheet materials from the same reliable partners for many years. Wood is the sustainable material of choice provided it comes from responsible forest management. We won’t do it for less than that.
